Goodbye

Craving solace, I bury my head in your lap.  Hands cover my ears, it’s all too loud.  The din swallows me whole and I become deaf momentarily, ears ringing - distant but loud.  The silence falls and I feel myself free-falling into your arms.  Licking my fingers, I taste the blood, warm and metallic.  You say goodbye and I’m left here frozen.  I see it now, you say you’re done waiting - miss the passion.  I’ll take it hard, tears and wailing.  But I’ll know I deserve it.  Darkness comes, long crooked fingers reach out to me, grasping at the air in front of me.  I succumb to the cold, balmy and prickly.  It pours into my bones, rattling and burning, I try to focus on the heat of my breath.  I wait here for you to return.
